Growing up I was a river guide in Oregon. Towards the end of this career I started pursuing photography and I always wanted to make this exact image. Seven or so years later I had the opportunity to go down the Grand Canyon with my good friend Laura Campbell (GC river guide rowing the boat). I told her I wanted to make this image and she was game. Next thing you know im sitting low in the front of the boat and I tell Laura to SMASH this next wave. A wall of water comes over the top of me. We get this image. My camera died. Too stoked to care.
